Privacy

Your screenshots stay with you.

KoalaShot captures and edits screenshots on your device. The extension does not upload them, send us page content, or track your activity.

Last updated: 8 September 2026. This policy covers the KoalaShot extension. Website visits and support messages are described separately below.

What happens when you capture

KoalaShot captures only after you explicitly start Capture & edit, Capture & copy, or Capture & save. The extension scrolls the active page, captures viewport sections, and stitches them into one PNG in local browser memory. This is local processing of website content, which may include personal or sensitive information visible on the page. The current page URL is checked in memory to detect navigation during capture; KoalaShot does not build a record of the sites you visit.

What we do not collect

Clipboard and downloads

Copying to the clipboard and saving a file are user-initiated actions. KoalaShot requests the optional clipboard permission when you select a copy action in the popup or editor. It does not read the clipboard and does not request the downloads permission. After export, your operating system, clipboard history, cloud clipboard or chosen download folder may retain or synchronize the image under your own settings. KoalaShot does not control those services.

Temporary editor captures

Choosing Capture & edit, or Edit on a completed capture, stores the original PNG in extension-local IndexedDB so the packaged editor can load it. Direct capture-and-copy and capture-and-save actions do not open the editor or store the original in IndexedDB; the result stays in popup memory until replaced or the popup closes. The capture also contains its source origin (scheme, hostname and port), page title, dimensions, filename and any completeness warning. New captures do not store the source URL path, query or fragment. Annotation and crop drafts, including revision counters, are stored locally; a tab-local sessionStorage journal protects unsaved edits during reload. Captures become unavailable after 24 hours and can be discarded immediately in the editor. An open editor deletes expired captures; if KoalaShot is closed, physical deletion occurs the next time its popup or editor starts. Redact covers pixels in exported PNGs; the temporary original remains unchanged until deleted. Downloaded files and copies already placed on the system clipboard are outside this automatic cleanup. There is no screenshot history interface and records are not synchronized. Concurrent editor tabs detect conflicting drafts and pause export. A separate copy retains the original expiry time. Damaged drafts block export; an unedited original can only be recovered through an explicit action.

Settings and support links

The selected capture area is saved in extension-local settings. A timestamp in browser session storage helps space screenshot requests; it contains no page content. Store and review metadata is packaged with the extension. Privacy, Legal, Help and review links open external websites only when clicked.

How the data is used

Page content and capture metadata are used only to capture, edit, restore and export the screenshot you requested. We do not receive or sell this data, use it for advertising, or make it available for human review. KoalaShot's use of information received through Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

The page you capture

Scrolling can cause the source website to load images or other content and run its own scripts. That website's requests and tracking are governed by its own policy. KoalaShot does not add analytics or send the screenshot back to the source website.

This website

Opening this website sends ordinary connection data, such as your IP address, the requested page and browser information, to its web server. The website code contains no analytics, tracking scripts, cookies or third-party embeds. It loads local assets and its own version metadata. Hosting-level request handling is separate from the extension's local screenshot processing. External links open other websites with their own privacy policies; clicking them does not upload your screenshots.

Contact and control

Use More → Close and discard in the editor to remove its temporary original and draft. We cannot retrieve or delete these local files for you because we do not receive them. For privacy questions, contact admin@koalastuff.net. If you email us, we receive your address and the content you choose to send and use them to respond. GitHub issues and attachments are public; avoid posting screenshots containing personal information. Publisher information is available in the central KoalaStuff legal notice.

Access limitations

Browser-protected pages, extension stores, built-in PDF viewers, and other privileged pages may block extension access. KoalaShot does not work around those browser boundaries. No browsing history is collected as a result.
